Untreated bronchitis: Cause of serious respiratory complications

Human beings and other mammals breathe through their lungs. People must take proper care of their lungs because it is a delicate and important organ in the body. Thus, respiratory illnesses could be experienced when the lungs are abused. Vices such as drug addiction, cigarette smoking and too much alcohol consumption can be harmful to our lungs. Also, the nature of the work place where the employee is exposed to excessive harmful substances and smoke may possibly have a serious impact to his lungs later on. Infants, young children, people living in polluted areas with weak pulmonary resistance usually experience a common respiratory illness known as acute bronchitis. This condition must be treated immediately in order to prevent further complications leading to chronic bronchitis.


Usually, acute bronchitis lasts for 10-12 days and is commonly followed by colds or flu. It is a contagious disease and can be easily spread from one person to another. In order to prevent spreading the illness, try to avoid close contact with people around you when you sneeze. Also be sure to cover your nose and mouth to prevent discharged particles from infecting others. Symptoms of this disease include sore throat, hot body temperature, persistent cough and drippy nose.
