Pregnancy and Tests
Advancement in Science has lead to many tools that help parents to keep a tab on the Mother’s health during pregnancy. Genetic Testing is a modern day aid to identify diseases that a baby may inherit from his genes. While this is a positive development knowing too much sometimes can be an emotionally disturbing experience for women during her pregnancy. This is especially true if there are any hereditary problems to deal with. Even then going in for Genetic Testing is a good idea because being aware of the problems is important rather than dealing with something unexpected during or after pregnancy.
The most common genetic disorders are sickle cell anemia, Down syndrome. Expecting mothers if diagnosed with difficulty for their child due to a genetic disorder can take the help of Doctors, Counselors and groups of pregnant women dealing with the same issue. The Emotional well being of a mother during pregnancy is crucial especially when Genetic Testing confirms the risk of hereditary condition. It’s important to always have a protective and caring family that will help the pregnant woman to stay positive and deal with any complications associated with Genetic disorders during and after the pregnancy. Most Genetic defects that a baby inherits are a result of defective genes being passed on from either of the parents. There are cases of Genetic defect in a baby during pregnancy that cannot be attributed as a hereditary genetic disorder at all.
Many pregnant women are confused whether to go in for Genetic testing. Being aware and prepared is important during pregnancy and Genetic Testing therefore should be a norm rather than an option.
