Oil Supplements

Fish oil supplements have been around for a long time.  If you are now thinking about adding them to your daily routine, then you should know what to look for before you spend your money. There are many products out there that claim to be the best fish oil supplements, but how do you really know?  Read the label.  Does it say what kind of fish the oil came from?  If it is a good product it will list or mention the fish by name.  This could be tuna, sardines, anchovies or salmon. The company should also tell you that the oil comes from fish that are considered good enough for human consumption.

Fish and fish oil both contain the omega 3 fatty acids which are docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and iecosapentasenoic acid (EPA).  We all know there are good and bad fats and fish oil is a really good fat that our body needs but does not produce. Most of us do not get enough of this omega 3 which is why these supplements are produced. It is easier to get your daily dose with a capsule then to eat a lot of fish on a regular basis. It is said that this supplement will lower your high blood pressure, it will lower the stiffness in your joints, reduces your chance of having a heart attack and lower your risk for a stroke.

It is also claimed that omega 3 fish oil will either prevent or help improve depression, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease and hyperactivity.  They also say that it can help you to better concentrate  and in general to think clearer. Many people will also ask how much fish oil should I take?  The answer to this will depend on the reason you are taking them. It is best to take it only with the supervision of a health care provider. Each maker will have their own way of producing their product so the amount of  omega 3 fatty acid will be different from maker to maker. Doses of fish oil are always measured on their content of the two acids. EPA and DHA is the acids that are measured. For those people who have high triglycerides, it is recommend that they take between two and four grams per day. For those who have been diagnosed with coronary artery disease, they should take about one gram per day.  It is possible to eat fish instead of take the capsules, but some fish have more omega 3 than others.
