In the past, there was a general consensus that if people ate healthy diets, there would be no need to also consume vitamins. New research has shattered this traditional stance, and there is growing evidence that it is extremely beneficial to consume multivitamins every-day, regardless of your diet.

Research has shown vitamins can do much more than preventing deficiency diseases such as rickets and scurvy. Consuming more than the minimum daily requirements of certain vitamins may avert the onset of more serious chronic diseases including osteoporosis, cancer and heart disease.

Vitamin A helps improve vision in darkness, and also regulates cell division and growth, stimulates the activity and production of white blood cells, assists in maintaining healthy endothelial cells which line the interior surfaces of the body, and plays a role in remodelling bone.

The three B vitamins, B6, B12, and folic acid have numerous benefits. Deficiency of B vitamin folic acid is strongly linked with causing birth defects such as spine bifida. It is highly recommended therefore that women in their childbearing years consume b vitamins rich in folic acid. Vitamins B6 and B12, as well as folic acid are also strongly linked to help battle various types of cancer and heart disease.

Vitamin C helps manage infections and aids the production of tissue collagen required for healthy gums, teeth, bones and blood vessels. Vitamin C also is a strong antioxidant.

Vitamin D assists the body by building strong bones through the assisting, retaining and absorbing of phosphorus and calcium, while vitamin E consumption, if taken for 2 years can reduce heart disease by 20 to 40%, a survey has said.

It is worth remembering that whilst multivitamin consumption does make good nutritional sense, they do not work miracles, Nor can multivitamins be used as a replacement for conventional medicine.

Consume just 1 multivitamin supplement a-day and your will be boosting your body’s well being enormously.
