A Deadly Infection

Depending on the conditions of the body in which it is currently residing, the strain of streptococcus agalactiae can be found to behave in multiple ways. It is actually native to the female rectum and urogenital tract.  It is known to be the most common infections that can harm newborn babies. As long as it is caught in time, many sufferers who are effected by this infection will have options in which to choose for treatment. This infection can cause a wide range of effects that are damaging, especially in newborns. Here are just some of the effect that can be seen in newborns who are born with an advanced stage of the streptococcus agalactiae.

This babies can be born with a fever that is difficult to manage. Vomiting can be happening although this is often overlooked because newborns can vomit with the changes that they must now adjust to with formals and external foods. Irritability is another factor that can be overlooked but in this case the irritability is extreme. Sepsis is inflammation in the whole body that is caused by streptococcus agalactiae infection. This infection can be very irritating to the body of a baby and can cause their body to swell up and look as if they are having an allergic reaction. This infection can also cause hearing loss because of the ear canals being infected. If these babies are born with a weak immune system, the streptococcus agalactiae infection can cause a sudden death. If not caught in time, an advanced progression of this disease can also cause death.  A newborn child can become very sick from this infection as their new bodies are not able to cope with the disease and fight the infection.

If not treated effectively, adults can sustain severe damage to many organs in their body. An adult can experience the same things a child can as well as others types of this infection like scarlet fever that can progress into conditions that can be more serious. In older adults, they must be more careful with their hygiene so that they will not be susceptible to this possibly deadly disease.  Pregnant women who are given an antibiotic treatment before the live birth will be reducing the likelihood of their baby having this infection. Babies born with streptococcus agalactiae can get antibiotics to manage this infection if it is not given too late. Without this treatment a newborn is given about five years to live, or less.
